Colorado Springs’ Regional Leadership will give their perspective on what’s in store for the city’s business community and the opportunities that lay ahead.

Our Panelists:
Mayor John Suthers, 
City of Colorado Springs
 
A lifelong resident of Colorado Springs, Suthers attended grade school here and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame, and in the top quarter of his law school class at the University of Colorado.  After graduation he returned home and became a Deputy District Attorney in Colorado Springs. In 1988, he was elected District Attorney of the 4th Judicial District, which includes El Paso and Teller Counties.  For the next eight years he managed the largest and most productive prosecution office in the state of Colorado.
Suthers brings decades of experience in government and management to the City of Colorado Springs.  Before being elected Mayor, Suthers served as Attorney General of Colorado from 2005 to 2015.
Merv Bennett, 
City of Colorado Springs
 
Merv Bennett spent 38 years at the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region where he worked as the vice president, president and CEO. Under his leadership, the Pikes Peak YMCA grew from a $4 million annual budget to nearly $20 million annually and built nine new centers.
Merv served on the Memorial Hospital Task Force and was the council representative on the lease negotiations, established the Colorado Springs Health Foundation, and served as the chair of the Colorado Springs Utilities Board. Currently, he is council president, chair of the Pikes Peak Regional Transportation Authority, a member of the Colorado Springs Urban Renewal Board and an ex-officio member of the Regional Business Alliance Board of Directors.

Al is responsible for growing, supporting and communicating economic opportunity within the Colorado Springs region. Al and the business development team manage a vibrant local industry program to help local businesses expand and grow, a business recruiting program to attract new business to the region and an entrepreneurial support program to help identify entrepreneurial companies and direct them to the resources they need. Al also supervises the ten economic sector teams and works with the Board-appointed Industry Advisory Council to drive business development in the region.
